Vines Grüner Veltliner ( %)

Color: Bright straw yellow with greenish reflections.
Smell: The nose is fresco and intense, with exotic and warm, spicy tones, with a note of green apple and mango, a note of white pepper and herbaceous.
Taste: On the palate it is medium bodied, fresco and savory, mineral, the sip is crisp thanks to the acidity, with good persistence and spicy aromas.
Food pairing: Perfect for seafood dishes, fish and crustaceans, raw seafood, oriental cuisine, sushi, vegetarian dishes, savory pies and cheeses.

Origin and territory: Chosen for their specific microclimate and scarce primary rocky soils, the bunches of Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Terrassen were carefully handpicked from the fields located on the steep terraces throughout the Wachau valley. This wine shows the very typical and coherent style of Wachau characterized by fresh fruit and strong minerality.
Grape variety: Grüner Veltliner is the most important grape variety in Austria with a share of about 1/3 in total production. In Domäne Wachau over 50% of the production is Grüner Veltliner, vinified in various types. This example is a medium-bodied Federspiel.
Classification: Federspiel wines have a maximum alcohol content of 12.5%. The name Federspiel derives from the falconry which was once a free activity and very popular among the nobility in the Middle Ages. The hawk is synonymous with the remarkable elegance of these dry white wines.
Breeding system: The vines are grown in the classic Lenz Moser-trellis system.
Average yield: 8,000 kg/ha.
Harvest: Manual, between the end of September and the beginning of October. The modern grape reception system receives 100% of the healthy grape material for selection.
Vinification: Soft pressing, overnight sedimentation, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel.

Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau is based in the village of Dürnstein located northwest of Vienna and is a cooperative winery oriented towards the production of quality wines. To date, Domäne Wachau members cultivate around 440 hectares of vineyards (which represent 30% of the wine produced in the Wachau area) including the crus Achleiten, Kollmitz, Loibenberg and Tausend-Eimer-Berg which make it the only reality winery dedicated to the production of wines from the most prestigious sites in the area. The Domäne Wachau vineyards are planted on steep terraces, reinforced by old dry stone walls. The grapes produced are mostly Grüner Veltliner (70% of the area under vines), followed by Riesling which constitutes 20%. In the cellar, the winemaker Heinz Frischengruber creates wines characterized by precision, aromatic depth and marked vivacity. The entire production process, from the vineyards to the cellar, is followed with great rigor by Roman Horvath, Master of Wine: the goal of his work is to create wines that express the maximum organoleptic potential resulting from the best expression of the territory.
