Ferdinand

The "Ferdinand" wines, well introduced and appreciated for many years in the European and American market, are the result of the great love, passion, diligence and foresight of the Četrtič family, a family that respects tradition and is faithful to the land del Brda (the Slovenian Collio) and viticulture which has its roots in Kojsko (Quisca). The vineyards, which develop in typical terraces in the northern part of Brda at an altitude between 150 and 300 meters above sea level, offer different grape varieties. Not only an appropriate climate, with hot summer days and relatively cold nights, but also the expert hands and the excellent knowledge acquired make it possible to cultivate organic grapes on 8 hectares with high-level results. Thanks to the soils, the wines have excellent minerality and acidity and are full and fruity at the same time. Kojsko is a historic village, an ancient village on the top of a hill, mentioned for the first time in 1086, clinging around its church whose bell tower looks like a small fortress. It is located just two kilometers from the border with Italy and Gorizia. Among these hills, which are delimited by the Alps to the north, while in the south, east and west by the Italian Collio and the Friulian plain, white grape varieties mainly grow. The fresh wines, recently vintage, vinified in stainless steel, are the Ribolla Gialla (Romanian Rebula) and Pinot Grigio (Sivi Pinot). The vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, in order to preserve the primary aromas and the typicality of the individual varieties. The "Epoca" wines are stylistically perfected, with a distinctive personal note and the minerality of the terroir in considerable relief. They mature on indigenous yeasts in 500 or 225 liter oak barrels for a period of 12 to 24 months. The name of the line shows that these wines are also suitable for long maturation periods. Época wines express the marked minerality or the saltiness typical of the land around Kojsko, one of the highest altitude villages in Brda. Brutus: wines from carefully selected ancient vineyards, produced using long maceration times without the addition of selected yeasts and without the use of clarification and stabilization processes. Bottling is also done without filtration. The name Brutus symbolizes the rusticity of these wines which express the uniqueness of the Brda terroir.
