Meran

Cantina Vini Merano and Cantina Burggräfler, two traditional cooperatives of producers, have joined together.   On July 1, 2010, following the merger of the Burggräfler winery (1901) and the Merano wine cellar (1952), the two traditional cooperatives of producers from the Merano area, the Merano Burggräfler winery was born with 380 members, who cultivate 260 ha of vineyards in the western wine-growing area of South Tyrol, from Lana in the south, through Merano to Rifiano in the north, and from Lagundo to Castelbello in the west. Numerous small producers cultivate their vineyards, located along the best slopes of Merano and the surrounding municipalities of Lagundo, Tirolo, Caines, Rifiano, Scena, Marlengo, Cermes and Lana. The wine-growing area of western South Tyrol extends to Val Venosta, the smallest South Tyrolean DOC production area closed, characterized by extreme climatic conditions.
