The de Corato family has solid roots in the land of Puglia. Here, in the countryside of Andria, at the end of the 1940s, Sebastiano de Corato founded the Rivera Winery in the homonymous family estate with the specific aim of enhancing and spreading the enormous quality potential of viticulture in the area surrounding the Castel throughout the world. del Monte. The success was not long in coming and the Rivera soon became the main point of reference for Apulian oenology and the authentic engine of its rebirth, thanks also to the innovations in the vineyard and cellar made since the 1980s. With the entry into the company of Sebastiano and Marco, sons of Carlo and grandchildren of the founder, the Rivera continues with pride and renewed commitment in the production of wines that express all the intense and elegant character of this area and its vines. In application of the company philosophy, the most modern techniques of viticulture and oenology are combined with the absolute respect for natural processes, in all phases of the production process - raising the vineyards, harvesting the grapes, vinifying, refining and bottling the wines. with a view to environmental and economic sustainability and continuous quality improvement. The cellars of the Rivera tell the story and evolution of the wine production of the last century. To the historical part dating back to the end of the 19th century, a new wing was added in the 1960s made with vitrified concrete wine vessels, now completely thermoconditioned. This production complex was joined by a modern and efficient winemaking department with small stainless steel tanks intended for the maceration of the grapes for rosé and red wines. The aging of red wines takes place in two underground casks, containing one over 400 French oak barrels and the other large 3,000 liter French oak barrels and 5,500 liter Slavonian oak barrels. The entire business complex is now powered by a photovoltaic system that covers 70% of the entire energy requirement. The Rivera quality project starts from the careful management, according to sustainable agriculture protocols, of the 75 hectares of vineyards owned by spurred cordon and guyot with high density of vines per hectare and low unit production. These vineyards are located in two distinct terroirs. The Rivera, Torre di Bocca and Coppa bottoms, between 200 and 230 meters above sea level, are characterized by deep calcareous-tuffaceous soils and provide autochthonous white berried grapes with good acidity and red berried grapes of great elegance and structure. The scenic Lama di Corvo vineyard, which faces the sea and the Gargano massif, was instead built on the limestone-rocky soils of the Alta Murgia at 350 meters above sea level and provides Chardonnay and Sauvignon with particular freshness and minerality. The remaining grape requirement is finally covered by a few trusted suppliers.
